Gattaca is a Sci-Fi movie set in to not to distant future but to the viewer there isn’t a specific date (we see that characteristic that are apart of our world to so it can’t be set over 50 years from now). ... The two characters contrast, that you make life what ever you want, you could live a life in the dark ashamed of yourself (Jerome) or prove family, society and science wrong by achieving your goal no matter what. ... But this is where the contrast between the two men comes inn. ... Through the movie we also see the contrast between the only two races on the planet at the time the races of the “Valids” and “Invalids”, Jerome was an invalid and due to this was treated as one, not being able to get into schools, not being able to work in certain field, that is why we see him as a cleaner in front of the Gattaca escalators.
