Happiness: The Only True Goal of Materialism or Spiritualism
The human body is an extremely intricate and complex system, the mysteries of which still remain a conundrum in spite of the highly evolved and advanced science and technology available. ... Even though happiness is the true and only goal of both materialism as well as spiritualism, seldom do some pragmatic people who get overly engrossed in accumulating material wealth realize how insidious material wealth is; therefore, they forget their true identity as being souls and remain ignorant of the fact that the true divine happiness can be achieved only by following spiritualism. ...
An individual performing an action whether materialistic or spiritualistic, no matter how varied it may be, does it with one and only one aim, and that is to seek happiness. Everyone in this world appears to be doing such a vast range of actions, some seemingly opposite in nature, which easily leads one to logically presume that everyone might have a different goal or intent. ... but if a person happens to think carefully and analytically, one would realize that behind all these innumerable objectives is hidden the sole intention of seeking happiness. ... In fact, no living being
can deviate from this goal of attainment of bliss, even if he strives to do so for
countless ages. (Maharaj 7)
Happiness, Bliss, Nature, and God are synonymous; these terms are just other names or ways of referring to the same entity; just as a teacher is referred to by different names in different locations, such as a teacher at the school, as a mom or a beloved wife at home, an aunt, a daughter or a friend to someone else. Because God is another name of happiness and everybody, both spiritual as well as the pragmatic materialist people, is striving for happiness; they are actually striving for God, without realizing that they are striving for Him. ... Similarly, he doesn’t want to say that he wants to reach or seek God, but being naïve he would say he wants to be happy; unaware that though he is seeking happiness he is actually seeking God, because God only is happiness or eternal bliss; therefore, it will be quite correct to say that not even a single soul is an atheist, a non believer in God (Deviji). ... So one could infer what is being referred to as his identity cannot be who he really is, therefore, when somebody refers to the terms: I, Me or He, they are actually referring to the soul; but unfortunately having forgotten the true identity as a soul since time immemorial call and refer themselves as their body. ... Seldom does one realize that the subject of the true self (soul) is entirely different than that of the body. ... The soul which is the true self will never be satisfied till it achieves its own subject matter, which is the divine subject matter; and reaches that eternal ocean of bliss and happiness. Just as the subject of the eye is entirely different than that of the ear, no matter how many material things one gives to oneself; the true self (soul) would never be satisfied, because the objective of the soul is not fulfilled by these material things.
