Despite glimpses of integrity Emma is as comfortable in the competitive world of television current affairs
Although at times Emma does display signs of integrity, the viewers at most times are led to believe Emma is on a par morality wise with the other characters. What Frontline shows is that the competitive and cutthroat nature of television/journalism compromises principles and ethics in the pursuit of a great story. ... Whats right and whats wrong doesnt matter in the world of television current affairs -- all that matters is the story, and the ratings. ... When we first meet Emma, we cant make up our minds about her. ... Emma realizes how important the story is, and without considering the feelings of the girl involved, she suggests they make a much bigger bid on it, and so they get the exclusive story. ... The journalists in Frontline, including Emma willingly offer a large amount of money to Jessica Steggal for her story just to boost their ratings. Despite Emma probably being under a lot of pressure to get the story as Frontline were really keen to get it, she should have said that it would present Frontline in a bad light if it became common knowledge that they had paid for a story. ... If Emma was a truly genuine person, she would have pointed this out.
