Fantasy is a form of fiction typically set in worlds different from the Earth with fictitious characters (Fantasy 1). The early authors of fantasy made fantasy easy to understand and fun to read. Fantasy literature puts the reader in a world of make-believe and wonder. Without fantasy, the imagination for inventions would not be nearly as strong. Fantasy is an adventure that can take the reader to another place with only a book and an imagination.

Fantasy literature is very similar to romantic literature in that they stress adventure and are out of the ordinary lifestyles. Around the 18th century fantasy literature began to get recognized as another form of literature because it involved fancying the imagination and putting the readers in completely different worlds (Science Fiction and Fantasy 1).
Fantasy became popular when it began to get published in science fiction magazines during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Science fiction and fantasy were published together because they were thought to be the same style.
