Describe your three most substantial accomplishments and explain why you view them as such. My three most substantial accomplishments are graduating from college, expanding the reach of the scholarship and awards program of the Society of Student Engineers (SSE), and saving the lives of oil rig workers. Graduating from college was a personal accomplishment because I fulfilled my parent’s’ dream of obtaining a college degree. Although my parents do not have college degrees, they taught me that education, hard work, and persistence line the path to success. In 1982, my parents lived in Grenada and dreamed of a better life for their children. They risked a great deal-- two stable jobs, a car, and a beautiful home in one of Grenada’s finest neighborhoods. They had a vision of a limitless future for their children in America. So, with only $150 in their pocket, they relocated the family to Alabama. Once in America, my parents worked full-time and attended community college. As a child, I remember Mom’s daily routine. She worked at a nursing home about three miles from our apartment, and walked to and from work six days a week. On weekdays, she attended evening classes at a community college to work toward her degree.
