A Bridge to My Heart

After completing the novel ‘A Bridge to Wiseman’s Cove’, I believe that the main themes of the book are: Belonging, Family relationships and Escape. I will be getting my evidence and information from the novel. Firstly I will be discussing the theme of belonging and the effects it has on Carl. When Carl first arrives in Wattle Beach, he tries hard to fit in and find friends. In the chapter Wattle Beach, Carl is following a girl, who he thinks is also ‘friendless’ but as he continues to follow her, he finds she also has a friend. Page 19. In the chapter The Café, Carl is watching a group of kids at a table; he spots the two girls (Justine and Maddie) among them. Clumsily he falls off his chair only to hear them all mock him.
