In this essay, I will be discussing racism in America in the 1920’s. Racism is a “hostile attitude or behavior to members of other races, based on belief on the innate superiority of ones own race” (‘Collins Pocket English Dictionary’ page 453). To do this I will be comparing racism in the ‘Of Mice and Men’ and in the movie ‘Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Café’. The racism in the novel ‘Of Mice and Men’ is very subtle (meaning that it is not immediately obvious). Crooks (the only Afro American in ‘Of Mice and Men’) is discriminated in small ways such as not being aloud in the workers bunkhouse.
