Underage drinking is on the rise. By the time most children reach the eighth grade, nearly 50 percent of adolescents have had at least one drink, and over 20 percent report having been “drunk”, according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. Underage drinking somehow always becomes a topic of discussion with my best friend Tonya especially since both of our daughters are the same age and are now attending middle school for the first time. I strongly agree that underage drinking is on the rise and that we need to educate our children on the hazards and consequences that come with underage drinking and to teach them not to give in to the pressures of their peers.
