In the book, Tomorrow When the War Began, by John Marsden, Ellie states “We’ve learnt a lot and have had to figure out what’s important and what really matters. ... In Tomorrow When the War Began, the group were friends before the war started making an exception for lee who was the newest member of the group. Then when the war started the group learned how much they really needed each other and the others support. ... I don’t know what he was thinking but he sure wasn’t doing war cries or carving notches in his belt, like I’d half-feared he might. ... At the end of the novel Tomorrow When the War Began, Ellie and her friends have learnt many things, not only about handling situations around them but also many things about each other.
