Why can this film be seen as ‘historical’?
By definition ‘historical’, according to the Oxford dictionary, has three possible meanings: 1 having to do with history, 2 belonging to or set in the past, 3 looking at the development of a subject over a period. The movie “Bonnie and Clyde” fits into the first two of these definitions, as it draws the audience into the life of crime Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow embarked on in 1931 with the Barrow gang.
The use of real photographs during the opening credits does several things to add to the historical credibility of the movie.
