Art and Religion The use of visual arts to communicate spiritual feelings and ideas
Art and Religion: The use of the arts to communicate spiritual feelings and ideas. Throughout history, the relationship between visual art and religion is so closely tied that it may not be possible to accurately determine when each had their own individual or distinct beginnings. Some of the earliest known works of visual art have very definite religious overtones and we can clearly see the theme carried forward throughout history and into modern times and spread throughout the various forms of visual arts and various religions. Depending on the time and place, religion-based works of art have historically been a combination of commissioned and independent projects (Pateman).
