--- Tape 3 -- [answer continued from tape 2] One of my primary responsibilities here is to develop what we call tactical officers or supervisors of cadets here at WP. The cadet supervisor or tactical officer is a captain with eight years of army experience. Their primary responsibility is to evaluate cadets in three areas, and one of their responsibilities is to communicate with their academic faculty, their military faculty, and their physical faculty to make sure that the cadets are developing in all core areas. They also play a role in providing cadets feedback on their performance and means for further developing in specific areas. One of the great things about WP is that we form what we call ¡§the community of practice.¡¨ Each of our jobs is to assist the tactical officers in developing the cadets. Cadets have many eyes on them at all times. Does that answer your question? [a follow up question] ¡Kfor top students, is there any chance for them to get a top position? [answer] It depends on where he or she would like to live and what kind of job they would like to perform. [clarification of question by translator] . That question is maybe a little straight forward. To my understanding she is more interested in knowing about not only the top but also the bottom. How do you treat the bottom students? The students who fail, the students who are not up to par, students who are not qualified, how do you post them? What is the system? [answer] As far as how we treat some of the cadets that are perhaps at the bottom of the class, we have cadet tactical officers and faculty members, the whole WP community who attempt to help the cadets. And it¡¦s a development process that takes 47 months. If they arrive at the 47 month mark without doing anything that would inhibit them from graduating [unintelligible] ¡K not a community fit, so we get them removed from the institution. Then they are unable to graduate. But as far as the selection of job opportunities for some of the better ones [graduates] ¡K they¡¦re taken by maybe the higher ranked cadets. [Another speaker adds a comment] I¡¦d like to add to that. There¡¦s lots of help here and the cadets have lots of resources to go to, to help them. It¡¦s my job as an instructor to help them. It¡¦s my job as an instructor to know which students are struggling and offer them opportunities to work with me to coach them one on one with their academic studies. Also, cadets are all strong in different areas and activities, some are good in school, some in academics and some in athletics, and some are good militarily, and that we recognize that a lot of times cadets help each other with the goal of not having anyone fall out. But at the end of the day, if they don¡¦t make the mark, then they don¡¦t graduate. [new question, unintelligible] [answer] Make sure that our students know the ¡§left and right limits,¡¨ so to speak. They understand the values that we absolutely believe in and live by as an organization. If they understand those values then they also understand our purpose as an organization and the direction that they are headed in. Then they are armed with the ability to be more creative. [a new question] The military is a very effective system and basically you really have to follow orders. If one day you receive an order from a superior and you believe that it is not right ¡V this is the exceptional case ¡V so, for example, against the institution, so in this case what do you do? I mean what do you teach your cadets to do? [answer] You know the military is a very hierarchical organization. But what we use is the commander¡¦s intent. What is the commander¡¦s idea? What is his objective? What are the goals?
