An 1 A Cry for Help Although anorexia is preventable, the increasing need to fit an ideal body form, causes teens to engage in unhealthy relationships with food and dieting. One of the most common experiences teenage girls are going through is anorexia. It is considered a disease, but can be brought up as a battle between your body and yourself. In the society we live in today, it is not education or inner appearance that matters, but our outward appearance. There are many consequences and effects from being anorexic.Our generation is the most superficial era of all time. So who can blame a girl striving to be considered thin in this deranged world? They say that anorexia is a disease for people lacking control. I personally think that anorexia is a girl trying to match up to the standards of this world today. You can never be pretty or skinny enough. Nine out of ten girls have a negative body image because of low self esteem (Vollstadt 31). There are so many things to discourage your confidence such as commercial ads, pills, and other girls.
