personal account
Ghosts! Life after death. Spirits. Who should we believe, the scientists or personal accounts of events or our own faith? Whatever you believe this is a true story. I was young. About 9years old when me and my best friend Jon Hampel went off to Glenwood Springs with his mother for a “vacation.” We were staying at the Hotel Colorado. Although, Jon and I did not know this, the hotel was said to have been haunted for many years. The story is different from everyone, but one manager told me that, “Hotel Colorado is haunted because there was a family which lived in the hotel and each of them were killed by this murderer who was hiding out in the hotel. After their death on the 7th floor the entire floor became haunted and therefore the closed down the seventh floor because no guests wanted to stay up there and there were too many accounts of a ghost disturbing their stay. However, to keep the building level and intact they also removed several other floors leaving the hotel with only 4 floors. The belief is that the fourth floor is now haunted because it is the top floor.” Well guess which floor I was staying on. But now the real story begins. I was swimming in the Springs with Jon on a hot relaxing afternoon. I went inside to use the bathroom in the hotel after we were done swimming and I heard the toilet next to me flush while I was exiting my stall and heading to the faucet. I would not have thought anything of this event had I not known that Hotel Colorado is a very old style hotel and the toilets are not automatic; meaning someone, or something must flush them for them to function. Although this was a weird occurrence it didn’t really bother me or connect in my mind as a ghost until later events unfolded…. The afternoon turned into night and Jon and I went up to our room to change for the evening. This is the weirdest part of all. But, before I describe the event it is imperative that I describe the room itself. The door to the room is a very large white door but the top of the door is not connected to the rest of the wall. Meaning, that there is a gap of about a foot that is open space from the ceiling to the top of the door.
