During the 1996 election, many issues in politics should be considered for change on the topic of campaign financing. Three of these issues involve issue advocacy advertising, soft money, and the value of being fair and honest. A few politicians had a hard time understanding the term of an “issue ad” An issue ad is, by definition, supposed to discuss broad political issues rather than specific candidates. In 1996 there was an ad about Jill Docking, then running for the senator of Kansas against Sam Brownback, that was supposed to be an “issue ad” ended up to be an ad that not only made her look bad as a candidate, but could have also made a big contribution in her not winning that election.
