The main and most important criticism of the DARE program is its effectiveness. Officials and schools are not absolutely buying into the power of the DARE program. If the drug use rate by teens has not decreased substantially and DARE is being implemented with in schools as early as middle school then there is a question about how limited this program is in its ability to keep kids away from drug use. Studies at the University of Kentucky showed that DARE and the regular health curriculum that a student receives are at the same level in its effectiveness, which would imply that DARE is a waste of money and time.
