The Joy Luck Club
The novel Joy Luck Club is very unique with its casts of characters. It was amazing how the author Amy Tan captured each individual’s personality. Each character has their own story to tell from past to present time. The two characters that were very intriguing were Lindo Jong and her American born daughter Waverly Jong. In many ways they are very similar as if the Waverly,the daughter is an American translation of her mother Lindo. Lindo Jong learns from an early age the powers of “invisible strength” of hiding her thoughts until the time is right to reveal them, and believing in one’s inner force (chi) even when one find themselves at a disadvantage. She discovers this when she was living in China. She was in a marriage that didn't involve love.
