When Emery feels compelled to show his mummy to someone but does not know who, he awakens one morning with a feeling in his blood, "wise blood like his daddy," (158) that the person to whom he will show the mummy will appear. When Motes drives by the park that day, Emery realizes that his blood had been telling him the truth. After showing Motes the mummy, Emery again feels that his blood is telling him something: He is going to be a part of something big and this is only the beginning of it.
