In Tom Reilly’s article in the Sacramento Bee, “Youth Crime Has Changed- And so must the Juvenile Justice System,” he informs his readers that the first juvenile court was established in 1899. ... Juveniles are causing more violent crimes than ever before. A solution to the rise in violent crimes committed by juveniles is to try them and sentence them as adults. ... In all actuality there are juveniles who are committing crimes as heinous as murder, rape, battery, and assaults with deadly weapons. ... ” Juveniles who are capable of taking ones life, be it by a knife, gun, or any other deadly weapons, should lose their rights as a juvenile and be tried as an adult. ...

The crime being certainly unintentional is why juveniles shouldn’t be punished as an adult for murder in the first degree, but an alternative punishment should be put in place. ...
