... They disguise these principles as ideals when in actuality they are firm rules of conduct that is expected out of each individual residing in the circle of that social unit. These “ideals” are concretely imbedded in the foundation of the social unit regardless of the detriment it may cause to any individual of the unit. ... This attitude causes fractures in the foundation the society has laid forth and in turn the fracture leads to alienation of the challenging social member. This phenomenon is illustrated in Franz Kafka’s “Metamorphosis”; a story of a man who is alienated by his family based on his transcendence out of the “ideal”.
