Privatization of Health Care
According to the Canada Health Act, “The primary objective of the Canadian health care policy is to protect and restore the physical and mental well-being of residents of Canada and to facilitate reasonable access to health services without financial or other barriers. ... ” So then why is there a need for discussion in regards to the privatization of Health Care in a country where medical aid should not come at a cost of an “arm and a leg”. In Canada, we have one of the best health care systems in the world. ... If we privatize health care, many citizens will be rendered helpless in getting the required medical attention needed. Women also suffer from the arbitrary relocation of care from hospitals and if health care is privatized, it will only worsen. If we do come to a point where privatization does occur, a chain of events will occur. ... Also, a financial aspect to privatization is also at jeopardy. Is this really what we want our health care system to come to? The answer is no, thus to keep the lives of millions going, we should not privatized health care. The Majority of Canadians do not want health care to be privatized. ... They suffer due to illogical relocation of care from hospitals and other institutions into the community. This also forces relatives of ill and disabled patients to supply care in their homes. And While being forced to do so, they are also being forced to volunteer themselves to provide this care. ... “The health of the ‘conscripted’ home care-givers is itself impaired.” (Health Care, Limited) Women are already being hit by the current health care situation, and if health care is privatized, they will only be hit harder with increasing momentum.
