Daniel Goleman in 1995 popularized and claims that emotional intelligence is more important to career success than technical skills or rational intelligence (Huczynski & Buchanan. ... Another theory of Emotional Intelligence was put forward in 1997 by Ayman Sawaf and Robert Cooper. ... According to Goleman (1995), "Emotional intelligence is the skills that help people harmonize, should become increasingly valued as a workplace asset in the years to come" and gave five dimensions of emotional intelligence; Self-awareness (self-confidence, realistic), Regulating feelings (trustworthiness and integrity), Motivation (high achievement need and organisational commitment), Empathy (cross-cultural sensitivity and expertise in building and retaining talent) and Social skills (effectiveness in leading change) (see appendix 1).
