The setting gives us a big clue that this is an Australian novel. “The finals were always in Wangaroo” and, “everybody decided there wasn’t a lot of excitement in Tangaratta.” These towns are both situated in Australia, so we know that the novel is Australian. “Since the second prize in the S.A. Tidy Towns Competition”, “the biggest thing to happen” in the town was the grand final. By reading the first section of this novel it’s quite clear that this is an Australian novel because it is mostly about Australian Rules football.
