Some may object that Catch Me If You Can celebrates Frank’s criminal activities, makes a hero out of a felon, but it does so in the almost carefree style of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Both films present a cat-and-mouse game that is relaxed yet fast-paced, that is true and engaging. Steven Spielberg asserted this idea by saying, "In any good cat-and-mouse story, the mouse keeps winning for a long time and the poor cat is so frustrated. ... And as we watch the story unfold in front of us, we’re also in awe because it’s basically true. ... " Spielberg adds, "Part of the inspiration of Catch Me If You Can for me is that it shows you can turn your life around and make something better of yourself, but its also a story that is pure, unadulterated fun. It has tremendous joie de vivre, which is reflective of who the real Frank Abagnale is to me. ... This is especially true when a child has to go through their parent’s divorce. ...
It is probably true that most people will take you at face value until they have reason to do otherwise. ... There are many people in this world that go about living a lie, but eventually I really do believe that their lies catch up to them. ... Catch Me If You Can excites not just the eyes, but also the mind. It is a wonderful movie to analyze and discuss the choices and morals behind the true tale.
