The 40 m sprint would be useful for sports, which involve short, but fast and powerful spurts of energy, such as football or basketball. For athletes who are involved in long distance running this test is pointless as it is a measure of anaerobic capacity not aerobic. This was shown in the results by a lot of the footballers such as Gary and Adam Murphy receiving the fastest times. However David who is an endurance athlete gained a time almost as fast as Gary. This could The 40m sprint is a relatively accurate measure as you are only running for a short time where only the ATP-CP is coming into action. However as this test was done in a situation where the standing broad jump was also being done, some of the results may not be as accurate, as they have already given an all out effort on the standing broad jump test and visa versa. There was a fairly large change in the time for the 40m sprint. This would be purely down to the particular sports which people play and the amount of red twitch fibres in their body.
