Growing up in Central Kansas seeing a tornado or hearing about one is definitely not uncommon. Kansas is smack dab in the middle of a band of states known as tornado alley. Tornado alley stretches from Texas to the Dakota’s. It is said that this state contain the most tornados per year. I was fortunate to witness one of this dreaded natural disasters first hand. It was a nice summer day just after one o’clock in late June. I was traveling to a job site in Great Bend, Kansas to do a pest control job when a radio weatherman announces that we could be in for some serve thunderstorms capable of producing tornados, later in the evening. I didn’t think much of it and was actually a little upset as he interrupted one of my favorite songs to bring the warning to attention. I looked out the window and saw the sun still shining over head and thought to myself, “I don’t see a cloud in the sky.” As I arrived in Great Bend I checked the address once again on the job list and pulled into the driveway of the house I was supposed to work in.
