Destiny s Question

In the class for which I am writing this paper, we had discussed at length Oedipus Rex’s tragic demise that was reached by taking steps of avoidance that ultimately led him to his destiny. This unfortunate circumstance lead us to the question, do we or do we not believe in destiny? On this particular day in class, I noted that the majority of those present believed in a destiny, that no matter what we did in life, we would meet this end. ... Socrates teases the reader with the destiny or no destiny question as if it were a cruel joke. ... We go back and forth as if on a see-saw, if we were destined it wouldn’t matter if I got any sleep tonight, but what if I was to get a failing grade anyways, but if I have only free will, it’s all in my hands, I’m staying awake for nothing. ... It is as if the play supports the whole destiny idea. ... Destiny would provide this time.
