This gave Torvald a reason to call her childish name and treat her like one. Since Torvald was getting a higher position at the bank, he did not mind her ‘overspending’. Now that Torvald would be in charge of the bank, he dismissal of Krogstad brought on the biggest problem which would lead to the central theme of the story.
