Cue for Treason Essay Assignment
Often characters in adventurous books go beyond expectations to perform outrageous acts, whereas such things would not occur in real life. In the novel Cue for Treason, the character Kit Russell was a quintessential heroine. She defied society’s strict expectations of a young lady by refusing an arranged marriage, concealing her identity, and living an adventurous life. Ladies in the 1500’s were not considered as important as men, but Kit Russell was an exception. She disguised herself as a young boy in an attempt to have a better life than what was planned. In the acting business, women were played by young men before their voices cracked. Kit would play some women but mostly men because she feared being recognized by her enemy – Sir Philip Morton, or her guardian. Most women would not have had the audacity to try to prevent an arranged marriage, but Kit’s arranged partner was Sir Philip who was an evil man of power, and Kit could not conceive of being married to him.
