Outline and asses the contribution of sub cultural theory to our understanding of crime and delinquency

There have been many attempts by sociologists to give understanding to crime and deviance. Many different theories been formed to try to explain the type of people more likely to commit crime and why they do it. ... It is often these subcultures which are pinpointed as deviant and responsible for crime. Sub cultural theories explains why and how people from subcultures slip into a deviant and criminal lifestyle. One of the first sub cultural theories was conducted by the Chicago School in the early Twentieth Century. They first looked at the city of Chicago (although this theory is applied world wide) and saw it in terms of five zones. ... It was zone two which Shaw and McKay of the Chicago School had the highest rate of crime which never fluctuated, even though the immigrant groups that lived there were always changing.
