Q1 : Your client is the site manager. Develop application of both the System Intervention Strategy (SIS) and the Soft System methodology to the above situation, ensuring that all stages of both approaches are clearly illustrated and that appropriate diagrams are included. There are two systems thinking that we should apply to the “food process plant” case; ‘Hard systems’ or ‘System Intervention Strategy (SIS)’ and ‘Soft System Methodology (SSM)’. System Intervention Strategy (SIS) is a formally straight forward problem-solving procedure. It’s used when a problem-solving need more thoughts than just past experiences or intuition. It is prescriptive and therefore, because of its assumptions, leaps into ‘devising solutions’. It contains 9 steps to accomplish so, which will be related to the case study provided. Step 1 – Doing the Groundwork (identify the clients- set and its world-view, establish communication and trust) In our case it’s the site manager of the food process plant. 200 workers under him, sees the competition increasing and margins reducing. Step 2 – Awareness of problem (the current position) Internal problems with production, development and sales department., External problem, with just over 200 workers the plant is one of the few local employers, fighting for survival in an intensely competitive market.
