John Maynard Keyens

John Maynard Keynes was born in Cambridge, England 1883. His father, Dr. John Neville Keynes, had a high administrative position at the University of Cambridge and his mother, Florence Ada Brown, was one of the earliest female students to attend Cambridge. At the age of seven, Keynes entered Perse School Kindergarten and two years later, at the age of nine, he went to St. Faith's preparatory school. In 1894 he topped the class for the first time and received a prize for mathematics. By 1896 he was recognized as one of the top students of his class. He had many interests at Cambridge beyond his academic work, spending much time with literary friends, reading, and involving himself in political activity. He was twelfth Wrangler in the Mathematical Tripos of 1905, which was twelfth ranked in a list of those receiving a First Class degree.
