A Wizard of Earthsea, a fantasy novel written by Ursula K. Le Guin, unravels the story of a young boy named Ged who leaves his hometown in Gont to explore the life of wizardry. As he begins his journey, he faces many life-threatening experiences. The largest challenge of them all is his lifelong fear, the shadow. Ged begins as a little thirteen year-old boy named Duny. He was granted the name Ged when his master, Ogion, believed that he was ready to become a wizard. He travels from island to island meeting many new people such as Vetch and Jasper from the School of Roke. He makes many poor decisions that lead him to encounter many traumatizing experiences in which he learns vital lessons from. These lessons are the knowledge of pride, power, and fear. When Ged first leaves his home to pick herbs for Ogion, he sees a young girl who is also picking herbs. Ged knows she is the daughter of the Lord of Re Albi. The girl begins to ask Ged about his life as a wizard.
