Hot Zone

The Hot Zone by Richard Preston starts off with the death of Charles Monet a poor factory worker who goes into Kitum Cave and mysteriously dies of unknown causes. This book was set around the mid to late eighties in Africa, America and Europe. With the death of Charles Monet African doctors send a sample of the blood to the C.D.C, located in Atlanta, Georgia, shortly after USAMRID receives a very small sample of the virus. The USAMRID is America’s army medical research area. The USAMRID do some testing of this “new” virus and they begin to suspect that it is Ebola Zaire, the deadliest virus known at the time. After doing some more testing they figure out that it was a strain that had an outbreak in Germany.
