In The Odyssey, the humans pray to, ask favors of, and, overall, look up to the gods. Being immortals and possessing powers inconceivable to the mortal humans of Greece, the gods had reason to be worshipped. Throughout Homer’s epic story, the human characters that were respectful and well-natured were always kept in mind by the gods when strife had arrived and favors were needed, but if one were to disobey the gods, or do harm to those favored by the gods, then they would not live easy lives.
