A Short Story by Any Other Name
Unlike many, I do not like a story that is very clear cut. ... I also consider a good exposition an important, but not necessarily vital, part of short story’s structure. By important, I mean it gives the reader an accurate presentation of the time the story takes place, and a good picture of who the characters are that we are dealing with. ...
A narrator is defined in Reading Literature and Writing Argument, as the person who relates a series of events in the plot of a story to the reader (James and Merickel 658). ... “This is one story I’ve never told before” (O’Brien 91). This particular type of narration is considered to be unreliable because the narrator is a part of the story, so it is told from his point of view, and the reader does not get all perspectives. ... Not for quality of narration, but more for the importance of the narrator in the story. The narrator is very important to the makeup of the story but it still takes second place to some other characteristics.
One of the most important traits of a short story is the final resolution, which is described in The Book of Literary Terms as “the wrapping up of the plot of a story or drama” (Turco 102). ... I would score the resolution in this story an eight.
