Inter-related Events and Issues in the Antebellum United
Inter-related Events and Issues in the Antebellum United States Americans were driven to own land and make it prosperous so they would have something to leave their children. The land was getting scarce in the east by the nineteenth century and it was difficult for young men to acquire land that was fit to farm. As an incentive to move west, the government was selling land for two to three dollars per acre, which was much cheaper than in the East. This led to a boom in the young and poor to move westward to achieve the American dream of owning land and having independence. With the move Westward came the Transportation Revolution. Settlers looked for the cheapest and easiest routes to move their belongings to the west. Covered wagons and stage coaches were difficult to travel with through lands that weren’t developed and didn’t have roads to follow.
