FACT or FICTION- the Near Death Experience
From birth our life is a unique path of wondrous possibilities, yet we all have one fate in common. ... The concept of death and dying has always been an enigma, but an idea with profound implications about this holy taboo is emerging which may solve the mystery and lower the anxiety. ... The twenty first century, with its technological advancements and understandings, has ushered in a new era of scientific research and fuelled a hot debate over the existence of consciousness without a physical body and the validity of what is now been termed a near death experience. My thesis is that to embrace death as a natural transition to a grander reality is to empower the soul to remember its eternal, divine nature.
A near-death experience, which from now on will be referred to as a NDE, is the phenomenon where a person has no vital signs, (pulse and brain waves,) sometimes declared clinically dead by their doctors, and are later revived recalling memories of their continued existence. ...
Although the term “near-death experience” is a modern title, the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and in the Old Testament have records of death and its accompanying experiences which go back through time. The ancient Egyptians believed death was but one of the journeys of life and buried the deceased with artefacts necessary in the after life. ... The near death experience and the idea of an afterlife has been a part of human history throughout the ages and in modern times has become the centre of much controversy. Although not actual NDEs, so called death-bed visions were widely reported in the nineteenth century. ... From mountain climbers who had fallen in the Alps, soldiers wounded in war, workers who had fallen off scaffolds and individuals who had nearly died in accidents or near-drowning, all reported life after death. ... Raymond Moody published ‘Life after Death,’ and coined the label near-death experience. ...
