In the novel Moby Dick, Herman Melville uses many different elements of literature in the story. Parallelism and foiling of characters are two represented in these chapters.
First, Melville writes an entire chapter about the Great White Whale known as Moby Dick. He describes Moby Dick as a harbor for all hatred and evil in the world as seen by Captain Ahab. One of the quotes that describes Ahab’s feeling of Moby Dick is “All that most maddens and torments; all that stirs up the lees of things; all the truth with malice in it; all that cracks the sinews and cakes the brain; all the subtle demonisms of life and thought; all evil, to crazy Ahab, were visible personified, and made practically assailable in Moby Dick.
