The 1920’s was a time of much change and silent revolution in this country. Slowly, the younger generations became more and more liberal in their mindset. However, there were still those conservatives who opposed any challenge or change to institutions that have occupied this country for many years. This wry battle between the two groups made the 20’s an interesting place to be. The roaring 20’s correctly describes the clash between the new ideas and those who looked to be reactionary in their ideas. Events present in the 1920’s represented social change by reforming liberals such as the flappers and the harlem renaissance, new technology such as the automobile and radio and their uses as well as those traditionalists that tried to preserve their “ideal” society with groups such as the Ku Klux Klan. The 1920’s would whet many of the movements that were soon to come. Group 1- Social Changes- C, E, H Group 2- New Technology uses- B, F, G Group 3- Traditional, Conservative- A, D 1. Bolshevik Revolution- First Red Scare, many labor unions accused of being communist by Attorney General Palmer 2. KKK at peak of membership and influence-(Created by Nathan Bedford Forrester a confederate, after the civil war) completely controlled many areas of the south and brought terror and fear into the African American and “non-native” people. 3. Quota Laws of 1920 and Immigration Acts of 1920’s- Washington noticed trend of mainly immigrants coming from southern and eastern Europe, which spoke different languages and had different appearances than the northern and western European immigrants.
