... Many children are born into broken homes, suffer from child abuse, and are even driven into prostitution. ... Prostitution today is a large growing problem but much of the public doesn’t realize the amount of adolescents that actually partake in such an awfully abusive activity.
Ivan Gibson-Ainyette, a professor at the California School of Professional Psychology-Fresno, is the author of an article entitled “Adolescent Female Prostitutes” which was published in the archives of sexual behavior. This article wholly represents a concern for adolescent prostitution. In summary, there are a horrific number of adolescent prostitutes on the streets who more than likely were school drop-outs, runaways, and/or drug abusers. The purpose of Gibson-Ainyette’s article was to determine the current characteristics and functioning of adolescent prostitutes. ... This is an obvious problem that must be stopped. As a society we need to focus specifically on the prevention of adolescent prostitution for the following reasons: adolescent prostitution is the starting point for most beginning prostitutes, it is a leading factor in the spread of STDs, it is a terrible way for a child to spend their adolescence, and it is morally wrong.
