There are many aspects in this novel which are either frightening or disturbing or both. One of the most aspects I feel is the fact that the antagonist in this book, namely Charles Kingshaw, is subject to overwhelming torture, both physical and mental, and at times, emotional. ... Not surprisingly though, these situations are far from just fiction, as many of these scenarions happen from time to time, which just makes it more frightening as the reader might begin to think that these things do actually happen. ... Another frightening aspect of this novel would be its many settings. ... Fortunately, reality is not always like the scenes in this book depict it to be, which makes the novel pretty disturbing, as it is meant to portray the darker side of life.
