Leading into the play, Lady Macbeth shares her rather forthright opinion of her sexuality when reading, in a letter, of Lord Macbeth’s throne-promising prophesy. She asks the spirits for their reknowned succor, regretting that if she were to maintain her feminin manners, she would not have the ability to perform her duties when it came time for her to support Lord Macbeth “…Unsex me here…make thick my blood…come to my woman’s breast, and take my milk for gall…” (act 1; scene:5, lines: 46-55) When discussing the matters of Duncan’s assassination later in the play, Lady Macbeth threatens Lord Macbeth with the life of a child to prove her own willingness to persue their course and tells him, “I would, while [the baby] was smiling in my face, have plucked my nipple from his boneless gums and dashed the brains out, had I so sworn as you have done to this.
