Drugs in Sports

With the many different professional sports affluent in our society, comes many different rules. ... These pertain to all sports, including team sports and also individual sports like track and field. One of these regulations pertains to the use of performance-enhancing drugs. The use of drugs in sports is cheating and should be punished harshly. ... Athletes will do whatever they can to get an edge and while the majority take the legal route, some turn to drugs to alter their bodies. ... The use of steroids in sports has become so much in the public eye that even President Bush addressed it during the State of the Union. Bush stated, “The use of performance-enhancing drugs like steroids in baseball, football and other sports is dangerous, and it sends the wrong message that there are shortcuts to accomplishments, and that performance is more important than character.” The idea behind sports and what we are taught at a very young age is to play fair and play by the rules. At what point in our sports career does this line become blurred and we feel it is ok to win at all costs? ... The idea behind competing in sports, many think, is that everyone is on a level playing field, but in reality that is not the case. ... They are cheating because they did not do this on their own, but needed to take illegal drugs to do it. ... So not only is using steroids cheating in sports, but by using them you are breaking the law. ... The same thing is going on in sports when you don’t know who is juicing up.
