Imagine being a Shaker boy as well as a farmer’s boy with a pet pig facing a coming of age that will lead to become a man. A Day No Pigs Would Die, by Robert Newton Peck is the story of a Shaker boy who endures difficult moments that leads him to become a man. ... Another example is when Robert sees Ira Long’s dog Hussy die. ... Another example is when Robert learns from his father that Pinky is barren, and when Robert sees Pinky die in front of his face (137). And last but not least, Robert learns his father is going to die. ... Tanner, his father tells him that he needs to work double because he didn’t work on that day. ... But his biggest responsibility is when Robert needs to take care of the whole family because his father lets Robert know that he will die (143).
