Negotiating in general. When you are negotiating there is a few things to remember. First, always rehearse what you want to be said at the meeting, the need of being prepared is essential especial when negotiating international. Second, remember when you are abroad you are the foreigner and you are the one who might act in an unusual way and try to be yourself even if it can be hard when you are far away from home and you are on your own. Third, go for the happy approach do what they want you to do even if it might be embarrassing, the experienced negotiators usual do their negotiations this way, they having a good laugh might be what in the end makes it all a successful negotiation. Try not to be so ‘stiff’ and have some fun while you negotiate. Often when negotiating in countries like the Middle or the Far East silence is a main part of communication. Arabs and Asians often use silence as a tool to make the negotiations successful. To avoid these ‘tools’ that they are using, try to endure them and not to start talking just to ‘do something’. Because when doing this they often use it as a way of getting information from you that you don’t wont to reveal to them.
