The French People and the Treatment of Marie Antoinette The year was 1770 and Marie Antoinette, only 15 years of age at this time, was brought into the French empire to establish new connections between France and Austria. Although her background of Austria had earned her a place in the French empire, it certainly did not earn her a place in the hearts of the French people. The French people absolutely despised their new queen; some even went to great lengths to show their disapproval of Marie Antoinette, but was this treatment of the queen justified? After looking at the facts, it is easy to see that the treatment of Marie Antoinette was reasonable. Instead of making France a better place to live in, all Marie Antoinette managed to do was create new problems for France as a whole. She caused the already suffering French economy to fall, she was incapable of choosing reliable officials for France’s government and she was unable to communicate with the French people nor understand their position. The hatred that Marie Antoinette received from the French people was not, evident in her home Austria. In Austria, Marie Antoinette was use to an easy life. ... By the time Marie Antoinette had reached the age of ten, it had already been decided that she would marry Louis XVI, the heir to the throne of France.
