Dancing has been a form of recreation and exercise since biblical times. Dances such as the American rumba and the foxtrot have come to new light with the ballroom dancing competition. Learning both the rumba and the foxtrot helps you become familiar with fast and slow rhythms of music. The rumba provides an outlet of unspoken passion transforming it into one of the most popular dances of Latin America. The rumba was used as a courtship, marriage, and street dance with its roots from Africa. The American people would have never been introduced to the rumba without the slave trade. There are three main types of variations of the rumba, such as the Guagrianco, Yambri, and Columbra. The reason why the rumba has two different spellings is because when Cuban music was introduced to New York City in the 1920s, the “h” was implanted to make it more presentable to higher society. Lue Quenn and Juan Sawyer exposed the United States to the rumba as not a humorous dance in the 1913. ... As Americans became more aware of other countries, Latin America was a popular American tourist attraction, creating a higher interest in the rumba.
