Homosexual Rights Movement
The Homosexual Rights Movement The day was June 27, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in New York’s Greenwich Village. Police raided a popular homosexual tavern but rather than peacefully submitting to police authority, the patrons of the bar fought back against the injustice and rioted for nearly three consecutive days. The date marked the beginning of the militant push towards homosexual rights. It was a pivotal point in what would later come to be known as the “Gay Rights Movement” or more appropriately, “Homosexual Liberation”. Up until that point in time, the movement for gay rights was strictly underground and existent only in the few highly developed nations of the world.
