The script I read was titled A Streetcar Named Desire, written by Tennessee Williams. It was published1947. Tennessee Williams has also produced other successful plays such as The Glass Menagerie, Summer and Smoke, The Rose Tattoo, Camino Real, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Orpheus Descending, Sweet Bird of Youth, and Night of the Iguana. Like many of his other plays A Streetcar Named Desire is a drama with a touch of comedy. It takes place in New Orleans in a poor section with a raffish charm, in the home of Stanley and Stella Kowalski. The play begins in the two story corner building the basement of which is Stella’s home when Blanche, Stella’s "older" sister drops in to stay awhile. After chatting Stella finds out the truth about Blanche’s surprise visit. The house of their parents and childhood, a grand plantation mansion called Belle Reve. At first Stanley and Blanche get along, but soon the relationship changes and they develop a hatred for each other.
